Kim Kardashian Health Update: Kim Kardashian has opened up about a recent health concern, revealing that she has been diagnosed with esophagitis, an inflammation of the esophagus. The condition has an added emotional weight for Kim because her father, Robert Kardashian, battled cancer in the same part of the body before his death in 2003.

Kim Talks About Her Condition in The Kardashians Trailer

Kim, 45, discusses her health in the trailer for Season 8 of The Kardashians. In one scene, she tells someone that she has “something called esophagitis.”

Esophagitis occurs when the lining of the esophagus becomes inflamed. The esophagus is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach and carries food and liquids during swallowing.

The trailer doesn’t reveal much about Kim’s diagnosis or how serious her condition is. However, several emotional moments suggest that the situation has been difficult for her. She is seen crying in one clip and appears to be in a hospital bed in another.

The subject becomes particularly emotional when someone asks whether her condition is related to the illness that affected her father. Robert Kardashian died from esophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59. Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, also becomes visibly emotional while discussing the situation.

Esophagitis Is Not the Same as Esophageal Cancer

While both conditions involve the esophagus, esophagitis and esophageal cancer are not the same diagnosis.

Esophagitis can have several causes, with acid reflux being one of the most common. Repeated exposure to stomach acid can irritate and inflame the esophageal lining. In some people, long-term reflux can lead to Barrett’s esophagus, a condition in which the normal lining changes and carries a higher risk of developing cancer.

Kim’s comments in the trailer do not indicate that she has esophageal cancer.

Kim’s Health Has Been a Topic on the Show

Health concerns have featured in Kim’s life and on The Kardashians in recent seasons. During the 2025 season premiere, she revealed that an MRI had detected a small brain aneurysm. Kim said doctors believed stress was a possible factor and that the finding did not require immediate treatment.

Her latest health disclosure comes during another personally challenging period. The new season also touches on the aftermath of her highly publicized divorce from rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye.

Kim has previously spoken about experiencing increased stress during the divorce and said that her psoriasis, a chronic skin condition, returned during that period.

Kim and Ye Continue to Co-Parent

Although their marriage ended in 2021, Kim and Ye continue to share parenting responsibilities for their four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.

In the new trailer, Kim acknowledges that her former husband will remain part of her life because of their children. The latest season is expected to explore both her family life and the personal challenges she has faced while balancing motherhood, business and her public career.
