Adnan Sami on Udta Teer Joke: Singer Adnan Sami had a witty response after a joke on the latest bonus episode of India’s Got Latent Season 2 drew a humorous comparison between his real-life story and Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming spy comedy Udta Teer.

What happened on the show?
The bonus episode featured YouTuber and comedian Aditya “Kullu” Kulshresth, stand-up comedian Rajat Sood, mentalist Suhani Shah and actor Ayushmann Khurrana.
Ayushmann appeared on the show to promote Udta Teer, which is directed by Aakash Kaushik and Amit Malik. During the episode, host Samay Raina asked him about the film’s storyline.
Describing the movie, Ayushmann called it “India’s first patriotic comedy” and explained that he plays a Pakistani spy who arrives in India and loses his memory. His character remembers his sense of patriotism but forgets which country he actually belongs to.
Kullu was quick with his punchline and simply said, “Woh Adnan Sami hai.” The remark left the panel laughing, with Ayushmann also joining in.

The clip soon made its way online, and Adnan Sami himself reacted to the joke. Commenting on the video, the singer wrote:
“Pehle mujhse ‘rights’ lo aur phir film banao.”
His response added another layer to the joke, suggesting that a story resembling his own journey should first come with the singer’s permission.
Why did the joke connect with Adnan Sami’s story?
The reference comes from Sami’s well-known journey from being born in the UK to a Pakistani father to eventually becoming an Indian citizen.
Sami moved to India in 2001 and went on to establish a successful career in the Indian music industry. His Pakistani passport expired in 2015 and was not renewed. He subsequently applied for Indian citizenship and was granted citizenship through naturalisation, effective January 1, 2016.
Because of this publicly known background, Kullu’s joke about a Pakistani character forgetting his identity after arriving in India immediately drew a connection with Sami’s real-life story.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming films
Udta Teer is one of Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming theatrical releases. In the film, he plays Bilal, a Pakistani spy who loses his memory following an explosion and begins believing that he is an Indian counter-terrorism officer.
The film, which also stars Sara Ali Khan, is scheduled to release on October 9, 2026.
Ayushmann is also set to appear in Yeh Prem Mol Liya, directed by Sooraj Barjatya and co-starring Sharvari. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on November 27, 2026.
With Udta Teer already generating curiosity around its unusual spy-comedy premise, Kullu’s Adnan Sami reference gave the film’s promotional appearance an additional dose of humour.
